"In the sea, life is different. Time doesn't move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun."

About Scuba 101

About Scuba 101

Scuba 101 was founded in April 2013 by Phil Parvus and Estelle Axcell who are both passionate about diving.

Phil Parvus

Phil has been diving since 1995, when he did his course with his son and daughter. He went on to further his qualifications by completing his Night and Limited Visibility, Stress and Rescue, Wreck, Navigation and Shark Specialties. When his Kids relocated overseas, diving was shelved until 2010, when a friend asked him to Buddy with her (more on this story later….)
To date, Phil has logged more than 250 dives in locations ranging from Bass Lake to The Red Sea and Mauritius.

Estelle Axcell

Estelle initially did her Open Water Course in November 1996, after experiencing a Scuba Diver Course in Mauritius. She fell in love with the underwater world and dived whenever an opportunity presented itself. Estelle has logged more than 250 dives and has dived in many exotic locations world wide, including the Seychelles, Maldives, Mozambique and The Red Sea. She has dived many local sites including Protea Banks, Knysna, Plettenburg Bay, Aliwal Shoal and Sodwana.

Both Phil and Estelle resumed their diving in all earnest so that that they could assist their mutual friend, Pat, who suffers from Parkinsons Diease.
They decided to go on to complete their Instructors course in 2012, and are now qualified to teach many specialty courses including Perfect Buoyancy, Deep, Nitrox, Stress and Rescue, Wreck, Navigation as well as Night and Limited Visibility. Most recently they received their Century Instructor qualification which is indicative of the experience they have gained.
They have taught many individuals ranging in ages from 10-65 years, and have been praised on numerous occasions for their patience and teaching abilities.

Lynn Erasmus

Lynn Erasmus joined Scuba 101 in October 2013 as an Instructor, after being out of the country for more than 2 years, gallivanting in Beijing, China, and then in Adelaide, South Australia.
Lynn had always wanted to dive, but never got round to it. When her daughter started diving, Lynn realised that she was not to be outdone, and started her Open Water course in January 2009, only to wonder why it took her 25 years to do it!! She went on to complete her Deep, Night and Navigation, Stress and Rescue, and finally ended up doing her Instructors course in September 2011. She has dived in South Africa, Mozambique, and in Australia. Lynn received her Century Instructor qualification earlier this year, and has logged 120 dives to date.

All 3 Instructors have a passion for diving and teaching, and look forward to fun-filled dive training in true SSI fashion.
